Cypher Wallet

Overview

CypherD Wallet is a YC backed multi-chain crypto wallet focused on EVM+Cosmos chains looking to simplify the wallet with an in-built bridge and a non-custodial crypto card. The main goal was to build the most user-friendly & easy interface for both native & new users and eventually become the one stop gateway to the world of web3/crypto.

They wanted a designer who is cryptonative, have decent experience in the web3 ecosystem who is not only comfortable but can also gauze the learning curve required by the users and subsequently to reduce it.

Goal of the project

The goal is to build the most user friendly & easy interface for both native & new users and become the one stop gateway to the world of crypto. Design a wallet which can support both evm & non evm range of blockchains & simplify the wallet with an in-built bridge and a non-custodial crypto card.

Building on strong foundations

While talking to over 20+ users of all kinds - natives, newbies and occasional users I found out that there were 4 main things I have to solve. I also used resources, feedback & research from existing wallets in the market to understand the problem space.

  1. Multiple wallets: Multiple chains have multi wallets & the user is expected to learn to navigate through different UI/UX. There is no fixed pattern in the industry.

  2. Steep learning curve: Jargons and crypto bro verbiage makes it hard to navigate through the space. Almost always have to look for guides outside the platform for help.

  3. Switch b/w platforms: For any activity user switches between atleast 4 platforms on an average. with almost no or little support. No easy navigation/integration between the dependant platforms.

  4. Redundant steps: Many steps and clicks are involved to conduct any action which can ideally be reduced and made smoother for users.

Warnings, desclaimers are not given throughout the processes.

Understand, Explore, Materialise

Bridging UI Rewamp

Since we were building for both ecosystems so naturally providing bridge between this was very much essential. I tried to move away from the usual multiple click UX to make the bridge and made it with as less clicks, and visual feedback as possible.

Giving visual cues to the chains getting switched and different actions in the interface was important to reduce friction, increase awareness. I made sure that disclaimers are always provided while also taking care to not obstruct the flow.

Staking and delegation UI

Currently token users have to go to the token dashboard application in order to delegate to a particular validator. CypherD eliminates this. I developed a complete and basic design system which could reproduce the fundamental journey of staking in evmos so as to be mobile friendly, and without having to leave the app.

Manage delegation

Mangage delegation flow can be very confusing, even in the excisting staking protocols it is not very smooth. I had to reproduce the flow in the mobile experience with as less steps while also giving all the info necessary.

Build-Measure-Learn

While designing the app itself, we also released the first ever crypto off ramp card. I extended the branding that I made for cypher wallet and used it for making a card that screams cuteness, fun and easy. The doggie in our branding has become iconic and very recognisable. The card also initiates curiosity among onlookers. The curiosity+ our easy onboarding flow mankes thius a popular choice among off rampers!

Results and Outcomes:

Some challenges that I was faced while designing

  1. Team of techies: I was the only designer with all other teamates being techies. While this meant that all ideas get translated, but also meant that I took care of all areas of design

  2. Very expansive vision: I had to make design system which is both fresh & scalable to include as many blockchains and protocols in the future.

  3. One of its kind: This was the most birds eye view project I had done so far which meant that i had to look at crypto ecosystem holistically while looking at all kinds of use cases.
